Reconstructing Hilather's lost method
A damaged body of conjuration research that tries to reconstruct Hilather's method for imprisoning powerful planar beings inside crafted objects.

Key facts
- The surviving geometry requires a planar breach, three stable anchors, a prepared vessel, and sufficient focused magical force.
- No surviving source proves that Hilather used a Netherese spell-lens when making the original thirteen Demonshields.
- Mordas is testing that hypothesis with a lens, a blank shield, and a glabrezu as the intended prisoner.
- If the geometry fails after manifestation, it can release the summoned creature instead of closing the breach.
Canon and campaign lore
Published accounts connect Hilather, the thirteen Demonshields, Netherese spell-lenses, and Ulcaster's effort to recover binding magic. The claim that Hilather used such a lens to forge the shields is a theory unique to the QLA continuity. Mordas's ritual is the first practical test of it.
Why the school fell
Calishite mages destroyed Ulcaster's academy after it came close to recovering guarded methods for binding genies and other planar powers. Their attack ended the research, burned the surface school, and left the founder's fate unknown.
