Lore
Demonsbane Shields of Tyr
Three holy triangular shields forged by Tyrran patriarchs to protect common folk from fiends summoned by Shoon nobles.
General description
The church of Anachtyr, also known as Tyr, forged Kimeltaar, Naelotaar, and Dizeltaar so paladins could slay fiends used in imperial raids and protect commoners. These relics are sometimes confused with Hilather's Demonshields because both sets arose during the Shoon Imperium. The Demonsbane Shields were holy weapons made from gold, silver, and copper. They imprisoned no fiends and instead carried Tyr's scale-and-hammer power against evil outsiders.

Creation and bearers
The patriarchs forged three triangular shields of gold, silver, and copper, then consecrated them in the Alimir Mountains. Three paladin brothers received the relics. Their descendants carried the shields into the royal line of Old Impiltur, where they became royal regalia.
The Year of the Moaning Gorge
In 786 DR, the paladin princes Essys, Araln, and Nord used the three shields together to open an Abyssal Portal that drew a demonic army back to its home planes. The demon lord Ndulu shattered Naelotaar and Dizeltaar during the battle. Their flying warhammers merged into Kimeltaar, which survived as the Hammer Shield of Impiltur.
Combined power
When all three shields existed, placing them together opened a vortex toward the Lower Planes and drew nearby evil outsiders into it. Kimeltaar retains the joined warhammer magic of its two destroyed companions, but the original three-shield portal cannot be recreated without restoring the lost relics.
